So some of you may have been like me and didn’t upgrade to gold master, so it was no surprise Sunday morning when I woke up that my phone read, Activation Required. I tried to hook it up to iTunes and got the message of “could not activate iPhone” I was then forced to sign in with iCloud details but unfortunately this did not solve the issue.  I then kept getting messages that Apple’s activation server was “temporarily unavailable.” and a new version of iOS was ready. GREAT!  The only logical thing I could do was go into DFU mode and set my phone up as new. It’s just a work iPhone 4S, so I didn’t have many apps anyway so no biggie.  However there is a fix.  The folks over at iPhone Hacks have a step by step how to restore your iOS device.  You need to install the new iTunes 11.1,download iOS 7.2 firmware manually and then do a manual restore.

Apple usually expires the beta versions after final releases, but this one came extremely fast. Sure Apple should be a little more graceful and give us a heads up before bricking our devices, but no ones to blame but ourselves for not updating.  If you are experiencing this error, don’t panic, a quick search online for DFU mode will walk you through the process of resetting your iDevice or follow the step by steps at iPhone Hacks.

I am a Police Officer by trade, but my passion lies in he Tech World! It all started decades ago when we built our first family computer running MS-DOS. Through the years I loved all things computers, gadgets and gizmos. When Nextels were the hip thing, I was breaking them apart, changing cases, hacking into the software and adding ringtones, screensavers and more. My passion really ignited with a gift of the first iPhone. This was a follow up from my Cingular Motorola ROKR iTunes phone. I was hooked. Jailbreaking, modding and most importantly ACCESSORIZING! Soon after I got all the iPhones one by one and was able to forge relationships with companies reviewing products geared at iPhone. I've since broken the chain and added Android devices too, but my heart will always lie with Apple.
