[disclaimer: this is not a review]
I’ve always been a fan of Gioteck, ever since I got to try out their EX-05 headset, and when I heard about their new line of headsets, I was excited to try one of them out.
This is the EX-05S. Similar to Apple’s naming scheme, this headset is an improvement on the already popular EX-05.
A lot has changed, but at the same time, a lot hasn’t. The EX-05S follows the same general design as the EX-05. We have the same style headband and earcups, but it’s when you look closer that you notice how much Gioteck has changed.
On the EX-05S headband, we now have metal reinforcements. This is a nice upgrade, because it provides more rigidity in the headset.
The earcups on the EX-05S have changed from the EX-05. One feature I do like on the improved headset is that there is slightly more movement in the earcups, but unfortunately Gioteck has changed the material on the earcup padding from a nice microfiber cloth to a pleather material. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, it’s just that on headphones I prefer microfiber.
Another thing I like about the Earcups on the EX-05S is that the Boom Microphone is on the left side and is also more solid and slightly less easy to knock than on the EX-05.
Cable & Control
On the EX-05S we see a similar style of cable, but halfway down the cable is where things start to get interesting. Gioteck has changed the control section of the headset. It is now thinner and slightly longer than on the previous headset, has a soft touch rubber finish, and improved controls for Mic Mute and Voice/Game volume. There’s also a 3.5mm headphone jack port for using a chat cable with the PS4 or Xbox 360, and can also be used with Xbox One if you have the stereo headset adapter.
On the end of the cable you’ll find the expected L/R red and white phonojacks for audio and of course USB for power.
Gioteck has also upgraded the audio quality in the EX-05S headset. The EX-05 had pretty good audio for gaming, but in the new headset, there’s a lot separating them, in the audio department.
The EX-05S has better bass response, improved soundstage to the point where you can almost hear footsteps behind you in game, and much more detailed sounds, which make games like GTA V even more fun to play, with gunshots and explosions.
Thanks to Gioteck for sending me the new EX-05S to try out.
